Does anyone know from what kind of tree this odd looking seed pod comes from?
I should have plucked one of the leaves too, but I didn't. They almost look like a rubber plant leaf. Large, dark green and waxy.
If I were the crafty type I would collect a bunch of these buggers and make something out of it.

It looks like a seed pod from a magnolia tree.
This particular tree has a bloom that looks like a big tulip.
I think it's technically a magnolia tree, but most people around here call them tulip trees.
They have a large, waxy, deep green leaf. It's a really nice tree.
If you've got no magnolias in your part of the world then it's probably just one of those pods from Invasion of the Body Snatchers, so RUN!!!!!!!
Anon - Thanks. I looked it up and you are correct.
Vic - it's a beautiful tree, you just don't see them much up this far north.
Dive - M said the very same thing!!!
It kinda looks like the tulip (yellow) poplar. We had a huge one that fell down during a recent wind storm. I would go check but it's too friggin cold outside.
