Don't Quit Your Day Job

Happy 2009 everyone!

I was trying to come up with a follow up to my "Drippin' with Cheeze" series that would be both interesting and terrifying at the same time.

I think I've found it.

My inspiration for this series came about when I was looking for a hotel to say at while up in Rhode Island. Visiting various travel websites: Expedia, Travelocity, Hotels.com I finally checked out Priceline.com.

There he was, William Shatner in his little suit trying to be very ninja like.

Let me preface this to say I am a BIG Star Trek fan. My brother and I watched it as a kid, I got my son addicted to it when he was little (the only action figures he ever owned were from Star Trek).

I liked the original Star Trek, with Captain Kirk, Spock, Lt. Ohura, Scotty, Doctor McCoy, Chekov, Sulu, Nurse Chapman the whole group.

I even liked the Next Generation: Captain Picard, Riker, Worf, Dianna Troi (ggrrrrrr!) and Data.

I wasn't much of a Deep Space Nine fan, but I did like Star Trek Voyager, mostly because I liked Captain Janeway.

Some of my favorite episodes of the original Star Trek are: Plato's Stepchildren (Where the crew of the Enterprise are controlled by a race who re-create Ancient Greece and then use the crew in a play. Captain Kirk and Ohura actually kiss!

The Paradise Syndrome where Kirk is treated like a God. This one cracks me up every time!

Operation Annihilate - where these weird jelly like creature attached themselves to the crew and kill them.

The Man Trap - where a monster sucks all of the salt out of it's victims.

Sooooooooooooo many more, too many to list actually, but you get the picture.

William Shatner has become the poster child for over acting and I don't think he's afraid to make fun of himself at all, which is always a plus in my book.

Dive introduced me to Leonord Nimoy singing the Ballad of Bilbo Baggins song. It has been etched on my brain ever since. If he wasn't on drugs when he made that, he should have. It's a classic case of why some actors should not attempt to sing. Don't quit your day job dude and you'll be just fine!

But there is one performance that will always stand out in my brain: Rocket Man

Introduced by Bernie Taupin: William Shatner "interprets" his version of Rocket Man.

Here he is sitting in his tux, posed dramatically with his cigarette acting out this song. The screen splits and you see 3 different versions of William, but my favorite is when he loosens up his tie and just gets down with his badself.

It's a classic. You don't know whether or not to laugh or cringe.

Peace all, have a great weekend!

I had a Spock action figure that looks like it may be part of the same set as your Kirk. Mine also had a belt that held a removable phaser and a communicator. It posed on a lamp in my office in the late 80s. Wish I still had it. Don't think it made the move to Texas, but I'm not sure where it ended up.

Looking forward to the new movie. Sylar as Spock? Yummy!

Hee hee hee!
Yay for Star Trek!
I am deeply ashamed to say I have Shatner's "The Transformed Man" LP on vinyl (though I don't think it's been played since a bad taste party back at college).
Brr …

Lulu- If we had only known what classics they would have become we would have kept them all. We even had little phasers and communicators.

Dive - There are some things that are great for parties. You mix them in with other music and see if anyone is paying attention. Cheech and Chongs "Dave" is another one that is great to slip in and George Carlin's Wonderful WINO.

Fun stuff!

oh, hee hee. He is delicious.

I love the episode when they battle Zod. And then there were the tribbles.

there are so many things wrong with these videos I can't even begin to comment.
I've watched them both beginning to end, I just couldn't refrain from staring at the screen...

I watched some of the original star trek as a kid, but never quite got into it and was introduced to the next generation last year and have to say I've grown to like it...
always was more of a star wars kinda gal.

Sylvia's not happy with me for ruining one of her favorite songs.:D

My husband is a big Star Trek the original series fan. When we were first married I had to sit through episodes every Saturday morning - I actually came to appreciate some of them. I love the one where Spock is hanging from a tree with a big goofy grin on his face. (This Side of Paradise?) Kev's is "Naked Time", I believe.
We went to see the remastered version of the very first episode, on the big-screen in a theatre in town.
We even have Shatner's album, "Has Been" (it's actually pretty good!)

I'll have to show my husband this post.

Oh, god...nothing can be as horrid as The Ballad of Bilbo Baggins.

But, this is close, honey...this is close.
