It's got to be the morning after

Ahhhh, the quiet after the holiday!

It's wonderful.

No plans for today, which is a big change for us. Our weekends have been so busy lately it's nice to have some down time.

M and Daughter C are still sleeping snug in their beds. I would love to be able to do the same thing, but I've always been an early morning person so I was up and out of bed at 7:00. That's actually late for me. I'm finding as I get older my body wants more rest and I am happy to oblige!

Thanksgiving was great. We all invaded the Semi-conductors house and it was nice to have the holiday in our childhood home. It's been a while. Since Mom got sick and passed, the holidays have been kind of quiet. My kids are older and spend every other holiday with their other parent and last year M and I just made a little chicken for ourselves and relaxed. It was nice, but something was missing. I get a bit nostalgic around the holidays and since my Mom passed away family has become more important to me. I have definitely been very fortunate to have a family that actually enjoys each others company and have fun together.

Something happens when we all get together. There is a theme song that just finds it's way out. Someone starts humming something, then we try to remember the words and soon after copious amounts of wine and consulting with the Semi-conductor for the lyrics we find ourselves singing the song throughout dinner.

One year we serenaded lil' brother T with the Lion Sleeps Tonight as he was taking his after dinner constitution.

We were trying to get him to relax!

Families - providing blog fodder forever! I love you all!

In honor of "Black Friday" that horrible tradition where shopaholics get up at the butt crack of dawn to try and save some money on holiday gifts and then fight over the last remaining whatever hot gift of the season is I thought I'd play you all the theme song from last night.

Neetzy started humming it. I came in with a few words, Bro In-law added a few more, we sounded like the drunken asses we were until we asked the Semi-Conductor the rest of the words for which we immediately forgot and it went something like this:

I got the horse right here, his name is Paul Revere.

da da da da da dada da da da dada.

hmmm, hmmm, hmm, hmm, hhhmmhmmm, hm, hm, hm hm, hmmm, hmmm

da da da da da dada da da da dada.

CAN DO! CAN DO! This guy says the horse can do.

No one is exactly sure how this song came into Neetzy's head, it doesn't matter really - we made a mess of it.

Now with the power of YouTube I can share the song with all of you. Extra points goes out to the first one who knows what musical this is from:

Gotta be Guys and Dolls, isn't it?

Thanks, Shaz, as usually you know exactly how to fill up my head with a persistent piece of music...if I get my husband started on this one, we'll be doing a perpetual duet for days!

Glad you had fun. Christmas is going to be so different for us this year. I now know what you feel about losing your mom.

Can do. Can do. Let's see what the horse can do. Guys and Dolls was the only musical I attended that Mainland Regional put on.

P.S. Did you know that the Macy's Parade was Rickrolled?

Hey Shazza, I'm a country bumpkin. From the looks I figured it was from the same era as Music Man. But, I wouldn't have known. Maybe someday, I'll venture to that side of the country and catch a real show.

Ah, the wonderful madness of families.
That's one version I'd love to have seen on video, Shazza.

Yeah, you should have filmed yourselves singing your drunken asses off! and put it on youtube, unbeknownst to them.

It's Guys and Dolls...I can tell just from the freeze frame before the video launches. One of my all time favorites. I saw a stage production with a friend who wasn't familiar with the film. She kept leaning over to whisper, "Which one did Brando play?" Kinda hard to picture him singing and dancing, even if you've seen the movie.

;^D

Kat - ding, ding, ding! You got it!

Neetzy - this is all your fault you know?

Vic - Well through the magic of DVD you can see all those corny ol' musicals anytime!

Dive - We always have a lot of fun. You'd fit right in.

Presby - as far as I know we haven't been video'd but my niece was sneaking around with a camera.

LuLubelle - I love musicals. I know they are corny, but sometimes I just need corny.
