Another week over

Sitting here drinking my coffee I am glad that for the most part this week is over. It wasn't necessarily a bad week, just busy and one of those weeks where my energy level was kind of low. We all have those weeks.

Yesterday I was SOOOO freakin' glad to get out of that office. Today I am only working 1/2 day and then M and are headed up to the Poconos for a little weekend retreat.

Why is it though when you want to get home so badly that it seems every obstacle is thrown in your direction so it will take you longer than usual to get home?

It was a crappy fall day yesterday. Windy and rainy and grey. I guess it affected every ones mood. We all seemed to be a bit grumpy.

I work on the 8th floor of my building. When I got on the elevator there was only 1 other woman on with me. We stared to descend and it stopped on the 7th floor and picked up two gents. Anxious to just get the hell out of there I was hoping that this was not going to be one of those elevator rides that stops at every freaking floor. Again we begin our descent - 6 - 5 - 4 - 3 - Looks like were in the clear!

and then it stops on the 2nd floor.

Some guy got in and rode down to the first floor.

1 floor.

1 freakin' floor!!!!

Couldn't he have walked down?

He looked young and able bodied. He wasn't carrying anything.

Is going down 1 flight of stairs all that hard?

Daggers were shooting out of the eyes of my elevator mates - I don't think I was the only one thinking that this guys was a lazy bum.

OK...whatever. I'm outta there...let me get my car.

I went to pay my parking charge and the "machine" would not take my card. It kept telling me that it wasn't reading it. I took it out...stuck it back in...again - it can't read it. I wiped of the magnetic strip and stuck it back in again...ppppppbbbbbblllllttttt it spit it back out AGAIN.

I happen to believe in good karma. If you are generally good to all things, all things will be kind of good to you.

Last night my karma was in the crapper and murmured at the stupid machine "listen you little fucker take my damn card I just want to go home!"

And it did!

Hallelujah!

The funny thing about rainy nights - people tend to drive like idiots. Going over the Ben Franklin bridge most drivers were going a bit slower than usual. There there is a little stretch of road I take that was jammed almost all the way back to the bridge. It took me over 5 minutes to go less than 1 mile.

Meanwhile my fuel gauge lights up and tells me I'm low! I'm more than low...I'm running on vapors.

I take the first exit and go to my favorite cheap gas station - WaWa. If you live in NJ or Pennsylvania I think even Delaware a WaWa is your friend. A beacon in the night. A smorgasbord of all things fast foody and bad for you. A cornucopia of Sizzlies, subs, sandwiches and coffee. Plus you can gas it up while you're shopping around.

This time around I wasn't getting any grease laden bagel fake egg concoction...just gas. I pulled up behind a truck who slowly pulled in the same time I did. As soon as I pulled up another car pulled up behind me. I was kind of stuck there. I don't like getting behind trucks filling up either because their gas tanks are HUGE and it takes them longer.

Now - in New Jersey we are one of 2 states in the entire United States were you cannot pump your own gas. It's actually illegal. Having owned a gas station with my ex-husband many years ago the NJ Gasoline Retailers Association were the ones holding back on being able to change this. Something about liability and insurance and blah, blah, blah. Whatever - I just know we can't pump our own gas and sometimes it's a pain in the ass.

My attendant was actually a very nice guy who was polite, he didn't grunt, he spoke clearly and was courteous. He started the truck a little ahead of me so I thought maybe, just maybe it would be done before me.

And it was!

Mr Nice Attendant guy tops him off...gives him his change and then comes over to my car and does the same. We exchange pleasantries, I wish him a good weekend and to stay warm and dry and he winked and smiled at me and said thanks you do the same!

I felt a little smile inside. Good karma restored!

I start up the car but I'm kind of trapped by the truck in front of me, the car behind me and the pumps on either side of me were filled too with cars waiting for their turn.

So I wait a little.

Truck guy doesn't even start his engine.

Different gas attendant guy looks at me and asks if I have been helped yet. I tell him yes I was just waiting to get out. Guy behind me is raising his hands...getting annoyed.

I have a small car and I assessed the situation and figured out that I can probably maneuver my way out if I was careful.

As I was passing Mr. Truck guy he's sitting in his truck all reclined and comfy...TALKING ON HIS FUCKING CELL PHONE!!!

Jersey girl took over and I yelled out: HEY ASSHOLE GET OFF THE FUCKING PHONE!

jerk

Don't mess with Jersey girls. We can be nasty little bitches when we want to be.

Good karma went out the window with that last little bit and I was doomed to get behind every idiot scardy cat driver on the NJ Turnpike.

And I did.

It was a LONG drive home.

Finally home - nearly 8:00 at night M and I ordered a pizza, drank some wine, watched a bit of TV and went to bed.

Glad the day was over!

To all the Jersey Girls out there - this one is for you!

Have a great weekend all and to restore my good karma - Peace!

Yeah, I was a Jersey girl for a few years. It's amazing how it just comes out at heated moments.

Enough frustration will bring the Jersey out in all of us.

Have a nice, peaceful and restorative weekend.

Yum.

I'm a Washington girl and I've been to Jersey and I think I can give it like a Jersy girl myself sometimes. I would have yelled at the idiot in the truck too and delighted in it, bad karma or not. I get so frustrated with people who think the world revolves around them. Wow, I may need a weekend away myself to restore my karma. We are going to Cannon Beach on the Oregon coast next week and staying through the Sat. after Thanksgiving - Oregon, one of the other states where you can't pump your own gas, but the beach makes it all worth it. Have a wonderful weekend!

Bruce was truly amazing in concert, but give Tom Waits the credit as the originator of Jersey Girl. I still think they both wrote them about me.(egomaniac beach bum but I was cute back then) We had so many amazing musicians at the Ninth Street Pavillion back in the day I swear I met them all. I remember the all night jams on the beach until the rent-a-cops kicked us off. Now my central PA students are in awe that I am actually from NJ!
