Drippin' with Cheeze

Happy Friday Cheeze Whiz fans! I hope that where ever it is you call home you are getting a little spring weather your way.

It's supposed to rain like the dickens here this weekend - oh well...April showers bring May flowers and all that happy horse shit.

Today's song, in my mind...is THE drippiest, sappiest, soggiest, and saddest of them all. Even the person who sings it should be crowned the reigning King of Cheezedom because even though this song is a mushy piece of over saturated milk toast...he actually recorded others along the same theme. (what was he thinking)

But...you can't really blame the singer entirely...someone actually had to write the lyrics in the first place. The gentleman who did...is actually responsible for another Cheeze Whiz song: The Night the Lights Went Out In Georgia - Mr. Bobby Russell.

Now technically - this is a bit outside of my criteria because it was released in 1968, but for this one I'll make an exception because the singer had his own variety show during the early 70's and it revived the songs popularity.

Have you figured it out yet?

I'll give you a hint - the singer had the most amazing head of helmet hair I've ever known!

Ladies and Gentleman and Bloggers of all ages I give you:

Honey

Written by: Bobby Russell
Sung by Bobby Goldsboro

See the tree, how big it's grown
But friend it hasn't been too long
It wasn't big

I laughed at her and she got mad
The first day that she planted it
Was just a twig

Then the first snow came
And she ran out to brush the snow away
So it wouldn't die

Came runnin' in all excited
Slipped and almost hurt herself
And I laughed till I cried

She was always young at heart
Kinda dumb and kinda smart
And I loved her so

And I surprised her with a puppy
Kept me up all Christmas Eve
Two years ago

And it would sure embarrass her
When I came in from workin' late
'Cause I would know

That she'd been sittin' there and cryin'
Over some sad and silly
Late, late show

And honey, I miss you
And I'm bein' good
And I'd love to be with you
If only I could

She wrecked the car and she was sad
And so afraid that I'd be mad
But what the heck

Though I pretended hard to be
Guess you could say she saw through me
And hugged my neck

I came home unexpectedly
And caught her cryin' needlessly
In the middle of the day

And it was in the early spring
When flowers bloom and robins sing
She went away

And honey, I miss you
And I'm bein' good
And I'd love to be with you If only I could

One day while I was not at home
While she was there and all alone
The angels came

Now all I have is memories Of Honey
and I wake up nights
And call her name

Now my life's an empty stage
Where Honey lived and Honey played
And love grew up

And a small cloud passes overhead
And cries down on the flowerbed
That Honey loved

And see the tree how big it's grown
But friend it hasn't been too long
It wasn't big

And I laughed at her and she got mad
The first day that she planted it,
was just a twig

This song was the singers first hit, but as I mentioned he also recorded similar sappy songs like: Watchin' Scotty Grow and Butterflies for Bucky...eeks.

This is the last installation of Drippin' With Cheeze - I've kind of run out of songs to post and I'm getting a bit bored with this, but fear not...I will have something equally mind numbing for you all next week!

Have a great weekend all and thanks for tuning in!

I found myself wondering if he was ever going to get to the refrain, which didn't sound familiar at all.

Good series of songs, brought back some memories.

OMG, I didn't think anyone else even knew who Bobby Goldsboro was! Wasn't he in the cast of "Here Comes the Bride" or am I confusing him with someone else? I remember the song, "Honey".
Thanks for checking out Poetikat's. I'm definitely putting you on my Blogroll.

P.S. Stop by again soon.

Hi Poetikat - Thanks for dropping in! I think you're thinking of Bobby Sherman maybe?

Right. Bobby Sherman - another classic singer, right. What was he known for (thanks Wikipedia) "Easy Come, Easy Go!"

...Takin' the shade, out of the sun
Ba dum, pum, pum

I was...fill in the blanks, cuz I'm drawin' a few.
