Drippin' with Cheeze

This friday's edition of "Drippin' with Cheeze" is dedicated to my blog pals: The Village Carpenter and her partner Presbyfruit.

They got a lot going on at the moment and I thought this one might cheer them up a bit!

Bar none, this is definitely my favorite cheezy song! It's a song that you love to hate and hate to love, but you know all the lyrics and you can't help but tap your toes and sing along whenever you hear it!

The story is a bit tragic...as are most of the songs in this collection, but the uplifting beat just makes you want to go out and dig out the ol' tube top and hot pants or polyester liesure suit and head out to the disco!

This is also a favorite drunken asses song...the more inebriated you become the louder you sing it.

And...it's one of the most annoying earworms - if you hear it once, your singing this little ditty for the rest of the freakin' day! One of my favorite things to do is walk by my bosses office and sing a few lines of this song and next thing you know...she's signing it too! It's infectious!

So...to VC and PB...keep your chins up m'dears!

Copacabana (the link to the You Tube video on this one just cracked me up, it definitely fits in with the cheeze)
by Barry Manilow

Her name was Lola,
she was a showgirl
With yellow feathers in her hair
and a dress cut down to there
She would merengue
and do the cha-cha
And while she tried to be a star,
Tony always tended bar
Across a crowded floor,
they worked from 8 till 4
They were young and they had each other
Who could ask for more?

At the Copa (CO!),
Copacabana (Copacabana)
The hottest spot north of Havana (here)
At the Copa (CO!),
CopacabanaMusic and passion were always the fashion
At the Copa....they fell in love(Copa Copacabana)

His name was Rico,
he wore a diamond
He was escorted to his chair,
he saw Lola dancin' there
And when she finished,
he called her over
But Rico went a bit too far,
Tony sailed across the bar
And then the punches flew
and chairs were smashed in two
There was blood and a single gun shot
But just who shot who?

At the Copa (CO!),
Copacabana (Copacabana)
The hottest spot north of Havana (here)
At the Copa (CO!),
CopacabanaMusic and passion were always the fashion
At the Copa....she lost her love
(Copa. . Copacabana)
(Copa Copacabana)
(Copacabana, ahh ahh ahh ahh)
(Ahh ahh ahh ahh Copa Copacabana)
(Talking Havana have a banana)
(Music and passion...always the fash--shun)

Her name is Lola,
she was a showgirl
But that was 30 years ago,
when they used to have a show
Now it's a disco,
but not for Lola
Still in the dress she used to wear,
faded feathers in her hair
She sits there so refined,
and drinks herself half-blind
She lost her youth and she lost her Tony
Now she's lost her mind!

At the Copa (CO!),
Copacabana (Copacabana)
The hottest spot north of Havana (here)
At the Copa (CO!),
CopacabanaMusic and passion were always the fashion
At the Copa....don't fall in love(Copa)
don't fall in love
Copacabana
Copacabana

Thanks, Shazza! I love this song and when I was a kid, I thought it rocked!

And it's not until now that I come to find out that "Tony tended bar."

could never make that line out.

Cheers!!!

Not one of my faves. But I confess to having a real love of Barry Manilow that my partner finds sickening.

Weekend in New England gets to me.

I know, I know...pathetic.

I admit to tapping a toe, snapping a finger.
