Have you ever had a chance to browse through the Urban Dictionary?
I looked up Shazza - not too nice. Here is one version:
The australian word for trailer trash/white trash unclassy women. On rare occassions used as a condensed nickname for someone named Sharon, but most of the time, its a descriptive term, to warn others of trashy women in the vicinity.
here's another:
likes drinking, smoking and being loud in public places. Sex is almost compulsory by the age of 14 and a baby is this girls favourite toy by the time she gets to 19. Female form of rudeboy.
Hmmmmm...I'm starting to wonder why my British colleagues call me this now? All this time I thought it was just a nickname for my real name?! A term of endearment!?
Now - I'm not so sure!

Those are Australian definitions, but your buds are from England. Could be it means something entirely different there, like, Fabu Gal Pal.
This is true. I showed the definition to one of my buddies over there who responded:
"Oh...heaven's NO!...that is not what it means in Oxford!"

I looked up Finn (which is a name I too got from a friend)

relax. shazza really just is a nickname for sharon in england. I knew that without even being english :) also I've read my share of Bridget Jones's Diary.
