Basement project - part 1

We have begun the process of clearing out the basement so that we can convert it into an apartment for Caitlin and Rick.

It seems just a few months ago I was cleaning it to make it into my office/art space.

I worked on packing up my desk and throwing away a lot of junk. Margie organized her books and then Caitlin and Rick moved my desk and some other pieces of furniture up into her bedroom which will now become my office and our exercise room.

They got a lot done, I was surprised. Caitlin was running on the rush of the experience, Rick was just doing what he was told. (She is training him well!) Today I will clear out some more of my things and dismantle the fish tank. We are down to 1tetra. He's a survivor. He's been around for 4 years. He and his little buddy who I found floating in the tank last week, have chased/eaten any other fish we tried to introduce into that tank. I think I am going to add him to the rain barrels and see how he does. The temperature is warm enough to sustain a tropical fish and there will be lots of little mosquito larvae for him to eat.

Good luck little buddy. Thank you for many hours of lazily watching you swim back and forth in your little glass home.

For now I'm off to walk the dogs and then give them a bath. They really stink.

Blogging blahs

I'm having a bit of the blogging blahs again lately.

I started writing a response to Poetikat and Neetzy's post about cleaning and lost steam about halfway through it and ended up deleting it.

I also haven't been around to visiting any one's blogs either. You would think with all of this time off I would be visiting everyone, but I just haven't felt like it.

Nothing personal mind you - just kind of blogging blahness.

My attention span has been very short lately - so if I start reading a blog and it's more than 2 or 3 paragraphs or if it's too wordy I simply lose interest. Again - nothing personal - its just my frame of mind at the moment.

My mind has been wondering about trying to think of things like: what do I want to be when I grow up? Should I sleep in another hour or exercise? Do I want to clean the house or do yard work (I always will do yard work over cleaning anytime). Should I play another game of Bubble Spinner or Mahjong or Spider Solitaire? I wonder who is on Facebook right now.

Spinning, spinning, spinning - with all kind of random unnecessary thoughts.

I saw a help wanted sign in front of the "Adult Pleasure Boutique" yesterday.

For a split second I thought about applying - would that be fun stuff for this blog?

For someone who has a blog called: Random thoughts, it occurred to me I haven't had a post about that in a while.

So...here it goes:

I saw 2 news casts today about "phenoms". One was a kid who broke the worlds record at Guitar Hero http://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=1093048082342&saved

My thoughts, and this is probably really mean, but who cares?

Maybe the kids parents obviously, but is this really newsworthy or is this just the "the real news is so freakin' depressing let's throw a little something else in there" story?

Alright - let me confess, I put my dinner on hold just so I could watch BOTH of these stories so obviously I care.

Guitar Hero befuddles me. I have never played it only because I'm not that big on video games anymore and I've never had the opportunity, but people who HAVE played it say it is awesome.

I played a little guitar when I was younger and, believe it or not, I actually taught lessons to kids who were just learning. (Mel Bay's Modern Guitar Method #1). FOR MONEY!

Really!

I think my son has my guitar somewhere. It's a Suzuki 3S and that's all I remember about it. I just remember when I was trying out guitars to buy I just loved the sound that came out and that is what made me buy it. I put a down payment on it and the owner of the music store let me teach little kids Med Bay's beginner book for $6 an hour. $5 for paying off my guitar and $1 to me.

Those were the days when you could make arrangements like that.

Maybe I'll take it up again someday.

Doubt it though.

The guitar is still my most very favorite instrument and a good Spanish Guitar can still make me weak in the knees.

Geez, the only thing I was good at in 1st grade was coloring in the lines.

Well, I know it's not really "news" but I am a sucker for those feel good stories every time.

If I were the parents of those kids I'd be sending the link to those videos to everyone I know!

Accidental Shazza

There is a storage tub in my basement that has a gazillion photos.

Most of are my kids when they were wee ones that I hope to organize and put into scrap books for them for when they get older.

Others are photos I took with my Kodak Instamatic pocket 110 camera that I just thought was the coolest thing since sliced bread!




I took a LOT of pictures back then. Some of there were good...most were of them were of friends doing goofy things. Trying to record on film, those happy childhood memories!

Birthday parties, family vacations, pictures of every freakin' animal at the Philadelphia Zoo! (I thought it would be interesting at the time!)

So...since this is MY blog and I have nothing other to blog about at the moment...I thought I would share some random photos of "Shazza throughout the Years".

I may put them in some kind of order...I haven't figured that part out yet. Right now I'm having too much fun laughing at the many different "versions" of me!

There are some interesting hair style choices, many unfortunate fashion flubs and a few photos where I just scratched my head and question the original reason for taking the pictures in the first place, but all in all it's a trippy trip down memory lane that has been lot of fun!

As Julie Andrews sang in the Sound of Music - Let's start at the very beginning and here is lil' Shazza....only a few days old waving to this new world around me!
